ABSTRACT

From formal gestures – fo folds, pleats, proportions – to the relation to the body, architecture and fashion share many qualities. How might you make the jump from one to the other? Judith Clark takes on the dual role of curator and designer, building on histories and concepts of dress to make them present in space. In many ways this perspective has fostered the understanding of historical dress as a conveyor of information, values and personal stories through time, and a discursive discipline in its own right. In this piece Clark reflects on the many influences in her career, from her architectural training through to the development of her practice.
