ABSTRACT

The field o of technology has long been described using spatial terms – highway, web, platform, cloud – and as it becomes further embedded in our lives, the distinctions between ‘real life’ and life online continue to break down. But what might technology learn from architecture, and vice versa? Matt Jones studied architecture in Wales in the 1990s, and now works at the forefront of the tech industry, as principal designer at Google AI. In this interview, Jones reflects on how architecture has shaped his work, and asks how architecture might learn from technology-scale thinking to make a real impact.
