ABSTRACT

The city belongs to all of us, and yet not all of us have the tools or understanding to shape it. Through roles in local government, private practice, and as co-founder of the not-for-profit Centre for Urban Pedagogy (CUP), Damon Rich has sought to break down these barriers of expertise and access, embracing a diversity of perspectives that shape the built environment. In this conversation, Rich describes his work at the intersection of social, political, economic and material forces, showing how the things architects normally like to control can in fact be the key to a new kind of publicly-spirited design.
