ABSTRACT

The idea that the discipline of architecture consists only of private practices is so common as to go unquestioned. But the horizon of possibility is much broader. Disillusioned by the working culture and lack of social purpose of private architectural practice, Finn Williams forged a career in the public sector. Now he has set up the social enterprise Public Practice to assist others to do the same. In this edited interview, we began by asking him what drew him to architecture in the first place, and how he got his start.
