ABSTRACT

Where can you make the most impact as an architect? How might your skills and experience be applied to make a difference to the public at large? In a career spanning private practice, public sector, advocacy, and a look toward national politics, Shelley Penn has explored the various ways an architect can have influence. Roles in state government architect’s offices in Australia opened Penn up to supporting the work of others, and shaping public policy. Through it all, she never lost sight of the gentle power of architecture, ‘offering shelter, belonging, and meaning at the most intimate human scale.’
