ABSTRACT

Equitable distribution of economic resources is required to strengthen democracy. Provincial Financial Commissions (PFCs) can play a significant role in taking the democratic project forward in Pakistan by facilitating and ensuring a better allocation of provincial finance at the local level. This study explores and analyses the impact of improved allocation of resources through PFCs to promote and strengthen democracy in the country. It is argued that the introduction and implementation of the local government system in the Punjab Province is a step forward in the process of democratisation and PFCs galvanise this process. The study is qualitative in nature based on relevant documents and interviews with the experts as well as practitioners.
