ABSTRACT

Child undernutrition is a critical challenge for development policy-makers of contemporary Pakistan. It is therefore of the utmost urgency to tackle this issue of immense importance, not only at the national but also at the subnational level. This chapter presents the issues faced by the children under 5 years in the Punjab, which is the largest province of the country in terms of employment, agriculture production and GDP share of the national income. Political leaders especially in the Punjab should take concrete measures to tackle these persistent undernutrition inequalities by specifically focusing on female education, and reducing development disparities across various lagging districts of the province by reducing wealth inequality through better education and employment opportunities, especially to mothers.
