ABSTRACT

This chapter aims to introduce the authorial work of Kalyne Lima, a female rapper from João Pessoa, a city in north-eastern Brazil, and her band, Sinta A Liga Crew (Feel the League Crew). Her music conveys a critical, feminist, anti-racist political discourse which is disseminated through their public performances. The analysis of the song “Campo Minado” and the rapper’s trajectory reveals how some types of bodies and performances are considered inappropriate in certain musical niches. My goal is to discuss how women need to display an affirmative and provocative attitude to gain recognition. The band’s performances also seek to challenge patriarchal norms and create new possibilities for women that go beyond traditional views of femininity and stereotypes in north-eastern Brazil.
