ABSTRACT

The purpose of this chapter is to explore what academic integrity is and how to uphold and promote it in university teaching contexts. The topic is significant for beginning and established university teachers because academic integrity is a foundation of ethical teaching and learning in universities. This chapter highlights three conceptual framings of academic integrity, viewing it through moral, educational and policy lenses, exploring how tensions between these can affect how educators address breaches of integrity. Discipline-specific approaches to academic integrity are considered and practical suggestions about how to teach the values and skills associated with integrity are offered.
