ABSTRACT

What started as a personal trip around the world, fuelled by curiosity to learn more about dance as an integrated part of various cultures and curricula at schools abroad, soon turned into teaching dance to children in different parts of the world and, not much later, into a foundation that creates movement programs for disadvantaged children and supports schools and teachers to integrate dance in their curriculum. This case narrative is based on personal experiences whilst teaching dance around the world, with specific descriptions of teaching experiences in Brazil, Thailand and India and an explanation of the adjustments made in pedagogy, whilst working non-verbally with young (school) children, teachers and children with special needs. It describes the process which started with joining a children’s dance class in Bali, to the launch of the foundation and all the changes and transformations that occurred in between.
