ABSTRACT

Contemporary globalization is a contributor to the emergence of transnationalism, the results of which have implications for TESOL teacher education. The impact of transnationalism on graduate TESOL teacher education has not been well represented in the existing literature, and there is a paucity of transnational teaching practica in many programs. We therefore propose that transnationalism should be included as a curriculum unit or a module in graduate TESOL teacher education degree programs. We have selected four themes or topics for inclusion and developed the “why,” “what,” “how,” and “when” of the proposed implementation. We also include a brief survey of course descriptions of the required courses offered by the graduate TESOL degree programs in seven US universities, to ascertain the extent to which transnationalism and related topics have been mentioned.
