ABSTRACT

The origins of psychoanalytic theory include ideas that unseen forces influence the human psyche. Reiki is an alternative therapy used to promote overall well-being and balance. The practitioner channels healing energy through their hands by lightly touching certain areas of a recipient’s body in order to restore the balance and flow of their energy. It is based on the belief that illness is caused by a disturbance in this energy, and Reiki will correct this balance, which will in turn promote healing. Clinical social workers are trained in evidence-based therapies, derived from systematic research, designed to be solution focused to help a person achieve specific goals to improve their lives, and the science driving this practice has been scrubbed clean of any mysticism that may have been present in its origins and young clinicians are not encouraged to explore spirituality with their clients.
