ABSTRACT

Jindrich Chalupecky was a Czech art theorist who wrote on, and curated exhibitions of the work of Duchamp and the Gutai group. “Zero Time” was one of the first attempts to write a history of the Fluxus movement. The text is based on detailed research and personal correspondence with members of the Fluxus group. In its dazzling exoteric history, art is positioned in the present day liberal society, respected and valued. In its esotericism, art requires a particular experience from the artist and develops it regardless of appreciation; it remains faithful to the original initiative, with which modern art entered the people age. The activity of the group called Fluxus is remarkable exactly because of its esoteric elements. During its existence, Fluxus anticipated many of the ideas and attempts that are now applied in large forum of the exoteric current of modern art, and yet the history of Fluxus itself has never been written, and neither were its contributions evaluated.
