ABSTRACT

Natasha Hadjidaki article on Andy Warhol is in tune with her own work and interests in the Pop culture and the relation of avant-garde art with low and counter-culture. For Warhol, “taking the mickey” like this was another form of expressing himself, another way of dodging the system that had already neutralized him. At least this way, “treating the bizarre outside and bizarre private worlds as a joke, is good for our mental health.” Warhol was accompanied by a few of his associates, Jane Forth and Paul Morrissey. This time, the “mickey-taking” achieved the status of an elevated theatrical performance.
