ABSTRACT

The painter, philosopher and essayist Camilian Demetrescu was a prominent figure in the Romanian art scene until he went into exile in 1969. New York prides itself on having succeeded in embracing the European avant-garde and assimilating, integrating, and adapting it to its own culture, and, eventually handing it back to the Old Continent—in a modified fashion—under the name of the American School. Andy Warhol, is the first person for author to consider, not because one of the most established celebrities (despite being born in 1930), but because there are elements in some of Andy's work that really interest author, namely a penchant for reality, that is unsophisticated and stemming from the most mundane aspects of daily life. Robert Rauschenberg, belong to author's generation, and are less successful in concealing the traces of intentions than Warhol. Having said that, the objective tendency is undoubtedly dominant in the field of American art.
