ABSTRACT

This chapter presents an account of author's experience as a safety advisor in the occupational health and safety (OHS) field. What the author had observed before becoming involved in that field was that OHS people seemed very driven by paperwork, blamed workers for accidents and had a strong desire not to have injuries or cover them up. The chapter shares some of the initiatives taken by the author to ensure that the total recordable injury frequency rate remained on track. When remembering his TRIFR-related strategies, the author also recalls the reactions from the workers in his previous workplaces, where a lack of trust in management was an everyday reality.
