ABSTRACT

Programs such as CreativeXR, the Venice Biennale’s virtual reality College, and Kaleidoscope are great resources to producers who would be unable to tap into what is state of the art in a rapidly evolving production, technical, and business ecosystem. At the beginning of the development process, it is important to be aware of how the format is developing. It is tempting to focus solely on experimentation with form and technology, but the author's advice is to be focused on the user and audience and how they will experience people's work. Try and develop a strategic plan on how to resource and distribute people's project as well as consider who they need as partners and collaborators. Flat-screen media is an established form. People understand how it is produced and distributed. It has a format and licensing model that has evolved for over a hundred years.
