ABSTRACT

Jörg Friedrich is a Game Designer from Berlin and is the Co-Founder of Paintbucket Games – an independent game studio that made the historical resistance sim Through the Darkest of Times. Aesthetics refers to the game’s appearance – its looks and sounds. The game narrative contains plot and setting, while the mechanics describe the rules of the game and how much interactivity there is for the player within the limitations of the physical and technical make-up of the game. Civilian resistance fighters in Germany during the Nazi regime were regular people with families and normal jobs, who saw what was going on in the world, and decided that they had to do something. They went underground and risked their lives to stop an inhumane regime. The game’s heroes are these resistance fighters. This is the player’s own avatar, as well as the other members' of the group.
