ABSTRACT

It was an incredible opportunity to think about media as a tool of creative expression and also a social and political tool within this specific healthcare problem and how people can work together differently to come up with better solutions. There are plenty of reasons why people need to think about co-creation in the context of an emergent, local conversation about access to these funds. People have also seen big companies using “co-creation” as a word, an excuse, or as a so-called “community consultation,” when in fact, it really is not. It is about stealing and exploiting labor and ideas for more profit for Google, Facebook, or whatever. The Haida Gwaii government was specifically interested in language revitalization and economic development. There are only 26 people left speaking the Haida Gwaii dialect, so they wanted to use the film for economic development.
