ABSTRACT

This chapter explains mindfulness techniques clinicians should integrate into eating disorder treatments for Black queer women. Emphasizing how social constructs negatively influence Black queer women’s relationship with their bodies, this chapter provides language to help clinicians understand their clients’ experiences with their bodies, understand their increased awareness of their bodies, and understand how to liberate their bodies from unrealistic expectations. In a strong client–clinician relationship, clients center their experiences, tell their own history, and face their food fears.
