ABSTRACT

Charlotte Anne Eaton (1788–1859) was Charlotte Waldie when she travelled to Brussels with her brother and sister in June of 1815. They were shocked to learn that an engagement between the English and French forces was imminent and they fled to Antwerp until England’s victory made it safe to visit the battlefield of Waterloo. Charlotte’s sister Jane drew images to accompany the account of their journey, and the Waldie family had it published as Narrative of a Residence in Belgium . . . several years later.
