ABSTRACT

This chapter analyzes the economic conditions of the production and consumption of classical music concerts. The structure of the state-sponsored classical music industry, as it exists in Germany, is found to be ill-equipped to master current technological challenges. The author argues that alternative models of financing, production, and performance for classical music concerts have to be developed and put to the test.
