ABSTRACT

Characterized by a unique symptom presentation and associated with a range of specific negative maternal and child outcomes, pregnancy-related anxiety has in recent years received an increasing amount of clinical and research attention. As with any clinical diagnostic category, accurate identification and diagnosis of pregnancy-related anxiety are essential precursors to the provision of effective clinical intervention for sufferers. This chapter will provide an overview of the currently available guidelines and diagnostic practices used to screen for and diagnose pregnancy-related anxiety in clinical practice. The strengths and limitations of these guidelines and diagnostic methods will be reviewed, and the clinical and policy implications discussed.
