ABSTRACT

This chapter takes the form of a dialogic essay as Taqralik and Tarralik explore their respective approaches to art history and creative writing practices about Inuit arts and culture. They speak about challenges of the writing process. Taqralik and Tarralik discuss the difficulties of working with non-Indigenous editors when it comes to grammar, Inuktitut, the predominance of English, and fighting for one’s voice as an author. The ownership of stories and the sense of responsibility to Inuit culture are discussed as well as orality of Inuit communities and how that translates to academic settings. The importance of having trusted peers to exchange ideas and feedback with is also discussed.
