ABSTRACT

Organizations are using an increasing range of types of data in shaping their policies and decisions. As the volume and variety of data increase, questions about the quality and meaning of that data, the systems used to collect data, the security and confidentiality and coherence of data are likely to multiply. Emerging strategies for data analysis, including descriptive, inferential, and causal analytics, are described, and the use of modern methods of data description, data visualization, and data modeling are described. The chapter ends by describing the different ways data is used by organizations and the business and organizational skills that are needed to use data effectively.
