Identifying key factors in successful bidding for doctoral training

The doctoral training landscape across the European Higher Education Area has evolved significantly over the past 20 years. Using the University of Bristol successful approach to the 2018 call to host Centres for Doctoral Training by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, we highlight the quality enhancements in the training required to produce the highest calibre of graduates who will thrive in the contemporary, and sometimes competitive, research environment.
