ABSTRACT

This chapter summarizes and discusses the major findings and the ways in which a number of key factors affect the expression of sexuality. It also discusses the relevance of these findings from the perspective of HIV prevention and the lessons that can be drawn for the further design of prevention policies. The chapter identifies new research areas and presents suggestions for future cross-national research in the field of sexuality and AIDS. It describes the major methodological characteristics of this European project and its limitations. For the prevention of HIV transmission to be effective, it is also important to be in keeping with each nation’s traditions in the area of contraception. Furthermore, it should be acknowledged that condom use is not the only way of adapting to HIV risk. People may adapt to AIDS differently according to their position in the life cycle and the types of relationship in which they are engaged.
