ABSTRACT

This article discusses how visually based theatre companies in the 1990s re-worked and recycled textual materials from well-known writers and dramatists in a non-illusionist or direct way of re-telling stories by the inclusion of personal materials. This would be done with tableaux-like images and dance-like movements. It was a new way of telling the world. Examples range from Verdensteatret to Needcompany, Richard Foreman and De Bronnen, the Wooster Group and Baktruppen.
