ABSTRACT

In chapter 10, Barry Speirs and Andrea Berkeley explore the ways in which government and education training providers have looked to the business world for ideas, models, and processes for developing leaders and measuring their impact. They describe leadership development processes that have proved successful in the business world and evaluate their applicability to the education sector. They write from differing perspectives, based not only on contrasting past experience in the business and educational worlds, but also on more recent experience working successfully in each other’s fields. Their analysis takes into account the advent of National Professional Qualifications (NPQs) for middle and senior leaders, aspiring and serving headteachers, and executive headteachers and MAT CEOs.
