ABSTRACT

Multiple measures were used to determine the impact of the Promoting PLACE in Rural Schools project. The Iowa Assessments, in addition to unit tests included in the curriculum, provided a means to calculate whether students’ academic performance had increased as a result of the intervention. However, measuring outcomes in the affective domain (i.e., student engagement, growth mindset, self-efficacy in the language arts, and stereotype threat) required instrument development and/or modification. In this chapter, the authors describe the steps taken to develop and ensure validity and reliability of the instruments using psychometric evidence.
