ABSTRACT

Chapter 15 assesses how different actors might help resource-rich nations maximize resource booms while minimizing the risks posed by the resource paradox, Dutch disease and global m market volatility that are inherent to the extractive natural resources industry. It does this by analyzing the natural resource management environment in Africa and underlining how the continent's vulnerability to global economic volatility affects its growth prospects. It focuses on how commodity market volatility affects the global economy and Africa's prospects for growth. The chapter also discusses how resource-rich African nations might protect themselves from unpredictability and offers suggestions for future natural resource management.
