ABSTRACT

This chapter explores climate change in the context of the Global North and South debate, using the lens of the Anthropocene. This is done on three levels: first through the definition of Anthropocene, and the debates on whether or not we have actually entered the Age of the Anthropocene, including comments by various authors on this proposed epoch’s significance on sociopolitical and economic affairs; second, through the background of the Anthropocene definition, look into the Global North and Global South debate, and the responsibilities and duties of each (this will inevitably look into the loss and damage provisions of the Paris Agreement); third, through the policies as they currently are, particularly with regard to the Paris Agreement, and create a brief overview of the most recent Conference of Parties and the commitments of certain countries and organizations regarding such. The chapter ends with gaps and recommendations, and current practices and questions to consider for the student or practitioner interested in the concept of the Anthropocene.
