ABSTRACT

The following letter was received at our office this morning:—“Kilmallock, Feb.19.—Sunday night, as a detachment of the Rifle Brigade were on their march from Mitchelstown to Kilfinan, their wives and children having preceded them on cars, they were attacked by a party of about forty men, who instantly called for the ammunition; and on being informed it was not with them, they declared their intention of ill-treating and murdering every Scotch and English woman amongst them, and insisted on knowing whether there was an officer or serjeant’s wife of their party.
