ABSTRACT
Colour Sergeant George Calladine (1793–1876) of the 19th Foot (the Green Howards), recounts his family experiences during a number of postings in England and Ireland. Only two of his thirteen children survived to adulthood, and yet contrary to the assumptions of some historians, the children clearly had been loved.
