As noted in an earlier section, Sergeant Pearman was born in 1819 in Nettlebed, Oxfordshire to a small farming family. He enlisted in 1843 in the 3rd Light Dragoons, and went to India two years later where he served until 1853, when he returned to England. He joined the police force, retiring as a First Class Inspector. He retired at age 62, and in his last years became disillusioned. Pearman died at age 89 in 1908.
