ABSTRACT

The following account of the deplorable condition of the soldiers’ wives now at Scutari is from the pen of the “Volunteer Surgeon” from Leeds, whose communications we have previously had the pleasure of inserting. It is a most serious reproach to this country that the poor women who were allowed to follow their husbands to the East, should have been subjected throughout to a neglect fruitful alike in moral and physical evil, and that at the end of so many months this gross injustice should continue. We trust that, now that the facts are published at home, immediate steps will be taken by Government to put an end to the state of things complained of:—
