ABSTRACT

Sir,―As a soldier’s wife, I shall feel deeply grateful if you will allow this letter to appear in your paper. My husband has sailed with his fellow-soldiers, and I have nothing but my needle to depend on to provide for myself, one child, and another unborn. I have neither money nor the necessaries for my confinement, nor can I spare the time to walk about to make inquiries; I have therefore been reduced to hope that, by your means, this may meet the eye of some subscriber, who will kindly take the trouble to inquire into my case and give me an order of admittance into Queen Charlotte’s Lying-in Hospital.
