Harold Wylly was born in 1858 in Meerut, India, where his father was a judge. Wylly became an army officer, joining the 95^th (Derbyshire) Regiment of Foot in 1878. He served in various conflicts, including the second Boer War. In 1900, Wylly took command of the regiment’s first battalion. After his retirement he became a military historian.
