ABSTRACT

Sir,—The commiseration of the public having been much excited by the statement which appeared in your columns of the condition of the wife of Private Charles Hawkins, of the 1st battalion of Scots Fusilier Guards, many persons, even from the highest quarters have come forward with offers of assistance; and there is reason to believe she has already received such an amount of money as may lead to inconvenient results, by tempting other soldiers to act in contravention of those regulations it has been found necessary to enforce with regard to soldiers’ marriages.
