ABSTRACT

Sir,—If your suggestions are adopted, they should be acted upon promptly. There is nothing like a beginning. A family here have this morning sent for five soldier’s children, for whom they intend to provide during their father’s absence with the army. There are good schools where they will be taught everything useful, gratis, and, if unwell, there is an excellent dispensary, the benefit of which they will have, and they will be lodged with people of good character and provided with decent clothing; and, above all, they will have a friendly eye over them.
