ABSTRACT

Sir—While all ranks, from the Sovereign to the humblest individual in the realm, are contributing to this fund, it seems most unaccountable that as yet nothing has been acknowledged from the several Regiments and Depots at home. This would not be the case if the Officers took the slightest interest in the object for which the fund is being collected. Should any misfortune occur to themselves they are aware that the State will provide handsomely for their families, and, therefore, to take any trouble in making a provision for those of the Soldier would be a bore, a task they are in no hurry to undertake.
