ABSTRACT

To the Editor.—Sir,—Your newspaper will have conveyed the astounding intelligence to our brave fellows in the East Indies that some 400 of their wives and children have been, by an arrangement of the government (for which their husbands have been shedding their blood), placed on board a vessel—the Accrington—so badly ventilated that its lower deck was unfit for human beings to exist in; and not for a passage from Liverpool to Cork, but a voyage from Liverpool to Calcutta. Wholesale destruction to the innocents is, as a matter of course, the consequence.
