ABSTRACT

For over a decade, Korean research units in the public and private sectors have been working to shift the paradigm of housing production in Korea from one based on the tradition of defining functions first, then building to suit, to one with a long view. Recognizing that technical standards, user requirements, household formation and the imperatives of investing sustainably, prototype projects and design and construction guidelines are coming to be recognized as representing an important shift in the way housing is financed, built and renewed in Korea.
