ABSTRACT

This chapter argues that a residential fit-out industry is a logical extension of the already massive remodeling industry that exists in most countries. But, because the existing building industry is unable to break out of its obsolete habits, a fit-out industry of many competitive, certified companies will probably only come into being by outside actors entering the stage. In the same way that Henry Ford basically invented an automotive industry, before a network of roads, highways and expressways came into being to support the automobiles being produced, in the same way, someone or some company will need to develop a successful residential fit-out service, which will stimulate competition and which in turn will lower costs, and will put residential base buildings in demand as the pragmatic basis for a regenerative residential building stock.
