ABSTRACT

Zoe Defoe started teaching at age 19 in French after school and weekend clubs whilst studying at university. Before training as a teacher, she worked in France in different employment sectors including a stint at Disneyland Paris. She was recently diagnosed with Addison’s disease (part of APS type 2, something JFK also had), and this made her take stock of many things. In this chapter, Zoe bravely shares some genuinely traumatic experiences in order to show the extent your school years shape your identity and path in life. She also explores the introduction of the Equality Act 2010, how it is designed to protect teachers from discrimination and how important it is to find the right school.
