ABSTRACT

Jennifer Heaton is a writer and film critic based in Glasgow. An alumnus of the London Film School, Jennifer writes for film, television and stage in various genres, but always with a feminist viewpoint and intersectional inclusion. This is the third of three chapters exploring what it is like to be taught by an authentic lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and others (LGBT+) teacher. It is a genuinely moving account of what it feels like to grow up in the wrong body and not to understand it because those honest conversations aren't happening. Jennifer argues that students need teachers they can trust. She felt like her drama lessons were a "respite from everything she hated about herself", and it was in these lessons that she began understanding who she was.
