ABSTRACT

Allison Zionts is a secondary school teacher in a girls' school in South London and a PhD student at Goldsmiths, University of London, where she is studying inclusion policies to support lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and others (LGBTQ+) students in single-sex schools. Returning to the topic of intersectionality, this chapter shows there is no one 'label' that fits all. Allison is bisexual and she is also Jewish. This brings its own distinct sense of community as well as its own set of challenges. In this piece she contrasts her very different experiences in two schools, and this raises the question: To what extent are some school leaders enabling a toxic culture in their schools?
