ABSTRACT

Affect relates to all aspects of our life, including the classroom experience. As language teachers, we have to pay attention to many things in our work; however, the cognitive aspects of foreign or second language learning do not provide all the information we need. Our teaching can have better results when we also give attention to the affective domain and take into account the fields of emotions and the language learner, emotions and the language teacher, and emotions and the teaching and learning process. In this chapter, we will explore some of the reasons why affective factors can have a significant influence on successful language learning and thus why a concern for affect in the classroom is important for the teaching/learning process.
