ABSTRACT

This chapter presents a discussion of teamwork in booth interpreting by interpreters who work from an oral to a sign language. We specifically share the experiences and research carried out with interpreters who work with Portuguese and Libras (Brazilian Sign Language). This topic is still recent in the Brazilian context of teamwork in simultaneous interpretation booths; however, they demonstrate the teams’ practices to act in a collaborative and interdependent manner, presenting seven strategies used by teams of interpreters. The text highlights the benefits described in the literature and in representative organisations about teamwork and the ways in which it can be carried out effectively. Interpreters can face different teams and need to be prepared to deal with different formats of conferences, seeking to develop skills that contribute to teamwork.
