ABSTRACT
This chapter discusses the first exploratory study on the role of Deaf signers of Argentine Sign Language (LSA) and support the work of LSA/Spanish interpreting teams as team members. It describes the present role of Deaf people in audiovisual media interpreting teams and to propose a nomenclature that describes the work, profile, and training requirements for this role. Spanish to LSA interpreting in the broadcast media in Argentina has only taken place over the last ten years. Specifically, the implementation of Article 66 of Law 26.522 enacted in 2009 created a need for professional interpreters to work in this new setting. In the national literature, the role of the Technical, Linguistic and Cultural Deaf Advisor in audiovisual/media sign language interpreting teams is rarely discussed and there is no research literature addressing the issues. Russo describe the issues affecting interpretation in LSA. Firstly, there are the technical aspects of media interpreting, including facilities, locations, material, and sound and image quality.
